Daily Goal: Track the highly anticipated arrival of cousin, Jill's baby.
Trials & Tribulations: My side of the family (in comparison to Mike's) is small. How small is small? Well, try no cousins at all. Mike's family used to rent a hall to host Christmas supper, because no one's home could accomodate "immediate" family, whereas in my little corner of the world, we all fit around one table.
Growing up, it was just me and my two sisters at any family function, showered by unconditional love from Grandma and Grandpa (there are perks to not having to share). No cousins to steal the end pieces of cake until we were in our late teens. For almost two decades we were "it". Come to think of it, end pieces were never an issue when I was little. Hmmm, perhaps we didn't adapt well to the concept of sharing when it came to Grandma's baking?
We tend to go decades without a birth and then whamo! babies, babies, and more babies. This pattern is firmly entrenched in our lineage. The 1980's saw Jann, Lisa, and I expanding our family tree along with our waistlines, and now, history is repeating itself. This cluster, to date, has Jessica and Jill bringing forth more babies for Grandma to love.
Successes:
- Jann was fantastic at keeping us posted every step of the way via Facebook updates and private emails. I think we should dub this Generation "Text"
- Jessica is tickled "blue" that Tessa and Ezra have a cousin (how many removed?) to play with.
"Cross your legs, Jill! You don't want that baby to have Friday the 13th birthdays, do you?"
She not only ignored my advice - she sent along the following reply,
"I want my baby to have the birthday 11•12•13!"
Welcome Austin, can't wait to hug and squeeze you!
Ahhh, Austin is just beautiful !!!

So sweet of you to keep the family archives in motion......It is wonderfully true that we have a new little one to join the family. We are all crazy about him......So much fun to be a Grandma... I wonder if Tessa, Ezra and Austin know what they are getting into. Our clans can be a little overwhelming.... I have a feeling though they just might out do all of us.....
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs,
Jann
